1: AI Harrington:

AI Harrington, one of the casts of the original Hawaii Five, has passed away. He died from a stroke on September 21, 2021, at age 85. The Samoan-American actor, born December 12, 1935, played Detective Ben Kokua in the Hawaii Five original series. 

Before his death, AI Harington appeared as a different individual on the CBS revival of the series that premiered in 2010.  

2: Jack Lord:

Jack Lord is another big name from the original Hawaii Five that has left this world. He died from congestive heart failure in 1998 at his home in Honolulu. 

Jack, whose real name is John Joseph Patrick Ryan, died at age 77. He was born on December 30, 1920. He retired to private life at the show’s end and only came out whenever he needed to pursue his business interest or philanthropic work. 

Jack was one of the names expected to be on the Hawaii Five-O remake. Unfortunately, he died before the show’s remake. 

Jack’s wife passed away in 2005, and his inheritance was handed to Hawaiian charities. 

3: Kam Fong Chun:

Kam Fong Chun is another big name from the original Hawaii Five that has died. He was known as Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly in the crime series.

Kam died in 2002 from lung cancer at his home in Honolulu. He was born on May 27, 1918, and died at age 84.  

4: James McArthur:

James McArthur, known as Detective Danny Williams, died in Florida on October 28, 2010. His death shocked many, as he was expected to appear in the Hawaii Five-O remake billed to premiere 2010. Unfortunately, he died before the show premiered.  

James died of unspecified natural causes. He was 72 years old when he died. He was born on December 8, 1937. 

5: Keo Woolford:

Keo Woolford has also passed away. But sadly, he died in 2016 from a stroke. The American actor and producer was born and raised in Hawaii. He was born on January 26, 1967, and died at age 49. 

6: Herman John Wedemeyer:

Herman John Wedemeyer, popularly known as Detective or Sergeant Duke Lukela in the Original Hawaii Five has passed away. He died on January 25, 1999. He was 74 years old when he passed away. 

Herman was an American actor, football player, and politician. And according to one of his sisters, Winona Gaison, he died of complications from a heart attack. 

7: Gilbert Lani Kauhi:

Gilbert Lani Kauhi is another fantastic actor that featured in the Hawaii Five-O. He will always be remembered as Kono Kalakaua in the crime series Hawaii Five.

Gilbert Francis Lani Damian Kauhi is an actor and comedian. He was born October 17, 1937, and passed away on May 3, 2004, in Hilo, Hawaii, the United States of America. 

Unfortunately, Gilbert didn’t remain in the Hawaii Five-O till the final series. He was fired after four seasons following his disagreement with the crime show’s publicist. There were claims that Jack Lord requested he be fired after a racial slur was used. 

He died at the age of 66 from complications caused by diabetes. And per Gilbert’s wish, his ashes were scattered off Waikiki. 

8: Richard Denning:

Richard Denning is another popular figure in the crime series, Hawaii Five-O. He’s best known for his recurring role as Hawaii’s governor. 

Richard, also known as Paul Jameson in the Hawaii Five-O, died at 84. He passed away on October 11, 1998, in Escondido, California, the United States of America. He was born on March 27, 1914. 

Richard’s death came as a shock for relatives, fans, and the entertainment industry. He died of cardiac arrest while visiting a relative in Southern California. 

9: Harry Endo: 

Harry Endo is another top character from the Hawaii Five-O that we will never forget. He’s best known for his role as a forensic scientist called Che Fong.

Harry was born in Colorado, though spent most of his life in Hawaii. He was born on July 20, 1922, in Denver, Colorado. 

Harry Endo enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and served as a radio operator in the infantry unit stationed in Europe. 

He later worked as a banker, and his encounter in show business came out of the blue. He was doing a commercial for his bank in the 60s before a CBS producer approached him to sign for a role in the Hawaii Five-O television series. 

Harry Endo agreed to feature in the movie and starred from 1970 to 1977. Unfortunately, Harry died in Brooklyn, New York, on January 9, 2009. He died of a stroke at 87 at a Methodist hospital in Brooklyn. 

10: Glenn Cannon:

Glenn Cannon is another character the Hawaii Five-O fans can’t forget in a hurry. Popularly known as attorney general John Manicote in the Hawaii Five-O, Glenn Cannon did justice to his role. 

Glenn was an educator and actor. He was an actor with a difference. He was born in Aberdeen, the United Kingdom, on November 21, 1932. 

Sadly, Glenn passed away on April 20, 2013, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the United States. In addition to Hawaii Five-O, he was featured in several blockbusters like Magnum PI. 

Glenn died at age 80, and before his death, he was president of the screen actors guild, Hawaiian chapter. 

He was also a professor of theater art at the University of Hawaii, at Manoa, and co-Director of Cinematic and Digital Arts at the same university. 

10: Moe Keale:

Moe Keale, known as Truck Kealoha in the Hawaii Five-O, is another name the crime series’ fans would miss greatly. Moe was unique. He was an American musician of Hawaiian music, composer, ukulele virtuoso, and actor.  

Moe was born in Ni’ihau, Hawaii, on December 3, 1939. He was Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s uncle and musical influence.    

Unfortunately, the Hawaiian Five-O legend passed away on April 15, 2002. He died of a heart attack.

Moe wrote a range of songs during his days as a musician. He wrote Aloha is a part of me, South Sea Island Magic, and a part of me.   

11: Douglas Kinilau Mossman:

Douglas Kinilau Mossman, known as Frank Kamana, is another star from the Hawaii Five-O. Mossman played the role “Kamana” and twelve additional characters throughout the series’ 12-year run. 

Mossman was born on April 7, 1933, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Unfortunately, he passed on on May 18, 2021. He died at the age of 88. 

Mossman was one of the first Native Hawaiian actors to make it to mainstream television. However, he first joined the US military and served for six years. 

After Mossman’s service in the military, which included participation in the Korean War, he decided to pursue his childhood passion. He has always wanted to become an actor since childhood.  

Mossman studied acting at Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California. After Mossman’s studies, one of the things he did in the late 50s was to secure a job at Warner Bros. 

So, he heard about the crime series Hawaii Five-O while working at Warner Bros and participated. He was first employed as a technical adviser. He went on to play a vital role in the movie and participated in several acting gigs while he was alive. 

12: Peggy Ryan: 

Peggy Ryan is a well-known name in the movie. She was born on August 28, 1924, in Long Beach, California, United States.  

Unfortunately, she passed away on October 30, 2004. Before her appearance in the movie, Peggy was a dancer.
